Shan Zhi Zi

bitter, cold clears Heat and Damp-Heat, especially from the 
Urinary Bladder, Liver, Gallbladder and Heart
Mu Dan Pi acrid, bitter, cool Cools the Blood, clears deficient Heat, cools the Liver,
invigorates Blood and eliminates stagnated Blood

 

Indications
*  Heat symptoms with an emotional component — cyclical acne, premenstrual flushing, menorrhagia, irritability and anger.
Dosage
The typical proportion when added to a constitutional formula is 6:1 formula to addition (15 grams in 75- 90 grams of formula). If a stronger effect is desired more can be added. When used alone the dose is three grams 2-3 times daily.
Combinations
*  With Xiao Yao San for irritability, depression, distension in the hypochondrium, irregular menses, and dysmenorrhoea with feelings of heat (Dan Zhi Xiao Yao San).

Combined action
Clears Heat with irritability.

Cautions and contraindications
None noted.
Contraindicated during pregnancy.
