Huang Lian

bitter, cold clears Damp and Toxic-Heat, cools 
the Heart and Stomach, drains downward
Wu Zhu Yu bitter, sweet tonifies the Liver and Kidney, 
nourishes the blood, expels infections from the skin


Indications
*  Heartburn, acid reflux, hyperacidity states, indeterminate gnawing hunger.

 Dosage
The typical proportion when added to a constitutional formula is 6:1 formula to addition (15 grams in 75- 90 grams of formula). If a stronger effect is desired more can be added. When used alone the dose is three grams twice daily.

*  Digestive complaints with a strong emotional component including irritability or depression: Si Ni San
