Gan Jiang

acrid, warm warms the Centre, disperses Cold,
 warms the Lung, transforms Fluid retention
Huang Lian bitter, cold clears Heat, dries Damp, purges Fire, removes Toxin,
clears and purges Fire in the Heart, Stomach and Liver


Indications
*  Disharmony of Stomach qi: epigastric upset or pain, acid regurgitation, vomiting, diarrhoea, dysentery.

Combined action
Disperses Cold, discharges Heat, stops vomiting, relieves hyperacidity.

Combinations
*  With stomach-ache due to qi stagnation, combine with Jin Ling Zi San.
Dosage
The typical proportion when added to a constitutional formula is 6:1 formula to addition (15 grams in 75- 90 grams of formula). If a stronger effect is desired more can be added. When used alone the dose is three grams twice daily.
