Indications
* Insomnia due to disharmony between the Heart and the Kidney, irritability, mouth ulcer and other symptoms of Heart Fire in the upper Jiao, together with cold feet and other symptoms of Kidney-yang deficiency in the lower Jiao. |
Combined action
Restores normal harmony between the Heart and the Kidney. |
Combinations
* With palpitation, add Bai Zi Ren/Suan Zao Ren.
* Can be added to Suan Zao Ren Tang for insomnia due to Liver Blood deficiency.
* Can be added to Tian Wang Bu Xin Dan for insomnia due to deficiency of yin and Blood. |
Dosage
The typical proportion when added to a constitutional formula is 6:1 formula to addition (15 grams in 75-90 grams of formula). If a stronger effect is desired more can be added. When used alone the dose is three
grams twice daily. |
Cautions and contraindications
Caution in patients with hyperactivity of Fire due to yin deficiency and damaged Body Fluid by febrile
diseases while prescribing Rou Gui.
