Sang Bai Pi

sweet, cold clears Lung heat, alleviates cough and wheezing 
promotes urination, reduces oedema

Chen Pi

acrid, bitter moves qi, strengthens the Spleen, 
dries warm damp, transforms Phlegm


Major therapeutic action
Dries Dampness, reduces swelling and oedema.

 Dosage
The typical proportion when added to a constitutional formula is 6:1 formula to addition (15 grams in 75- 90 grams of formula). If a stronger effect is desired more can be added. When used alone the dose is three grams twice daily.

Indications
*  General oedema with heavy limbs, fullness and distension of the chest and abdomen, dyspnoea.
*  Oedema of the skin.
*  Dysuria.
*  Chronic nephritis, heart failure and oedema of pregnancy.

Cautions and contraindications
None noted.

Combinations
*  With Wu Ling San to treat facial oedema, and dysuria.
