Major therapeutic action
* Tonifies energy and blood. |
Dosage
The typical proportion when added to a constitutional formula is 6:1 formula to addition (15 grams in 75-
90 grams of formula). If a stronger effect is desired more can be added. When used alone the dose is three
grams twice daily. |
Indications
* Energy and blood deficiency, particularly when acute following a haemorrhage, such as childbirth. Can
be added to any formula to enhance the energy and blood tonic effect.
* Postpartum weakness and fever from clinical or subclinical anaemia.
* Chronic non-healing sores and ulcers.
* Convalescence following severe illness or following surgery. |
Cautions and contraindications
None noted.
Contraindicated in excess patterns and fevers from heat. Ensure all pathogens are fully expelled before
using for post illness convalescence. |
Combinations
* With Gui Pi Tang for severe postpartum weakness or fever with pale face and lips and a weak pulse. |
