Ingredients
Atractylodes macrocephala (Bai Zhu, atractylodes)
Astragalus membranaceous (Huang Qi, astragalus)
Ledebouriella divaricata (Fang Feng, siler)

Major therapeutic action
Strengthens immune system, supplements the energy of the body, stops sweating.


Biomedical action
Immune stimulant, anhydrotic.

Indications
o  Frequent colds, upper respiratory infections or other infections. This is a widely used and important formula for children.
o  Chronic retention of infection in the respiratory system. This pattern manifests as respiratory allergies— allergic and perennial rhinitis.
o  Excessive sweating. This type of sweating occurs at rest, during the day.

Key symptoms for use
o  low immunity
o  shortness of breath
o  pallor, fatigue
o  spontaneous sweating
o  weak pulse

Combinations
o  For severe or persistent sweating, combine with Mu Li/Fu Xiao Mai/Ma Huang Gen.
o  For allergic rhinitis, combine with Cang Er San.
o  For hypotension, combine with Sheng Mai San.
o  With phlegm, add Chen Pi & Ban Xia.
o  For persistent cough in rundown children, combine with Zhi Sou San.
Dosage
The typical dose is three grams twice daily, before meals. In severe or acute cases, or the early stages of treatment (the first two weeks), a 50-100% increase in dose may be used, then tapered off as the treatment takes effect. For children the dose should be reduced by 25-50%.
