Du Zhong

Xu Duan

bitter, sweet tonifies the Liver and Kidneys,
nourishes the Blood, expels Wind from the skin


Major therapeutic action
Strengthens the body, especially energy and warmth.

Dosage
The typical proportion when added to a constitutional formula is 6:1 formula to addition (15 grams in 75- 90 grams of formula). If a stronger effect is desired more can be added. When used alone the dose is three grams 2-3 times daily.

Indications
o  Lower backache associated with a variety of pathologies especially with feelings of cold.

Cautions and contraindications
Caution in patients with dryness patterns.
None noted.

Combinations
o  With Dang Gui Shao Yao San for premenstrual backache.
