Semen Biotae orientalis is the dried ripe kernel of Biota orientalis (L.) Franco (Fam. Cupressaceae). The ripe seed is collected in autumn and winter, dried in the sun, and removed from the testa.

In the memory acquisition and pharmacological step-down tests, bai zi ren could reduce the number of mice with errors. But it couldn't improve memory maintenance.

Alopecia areata

bai zi ren, he shou wu and dang gui of same quantity were ground into fine powder and made into honeyed pill, 9g each pill. 1 pill, tid. 28 cases were treated and therapeutic effects of different degrees were obtained.

Oral ulcer

bai zi ren 30g (fresh) was made tea for 2~4 days. 66 cases were treated and all were effective.

Primary hypotension

Primary hypotension with severe palpitation: huang qi, dang shen, 15g each; tian ma, dang gui, e jiao, bai zhu, 10g each; bai zi ren 12g; dan shen 15g. Water decoction, 1 dose every day, for 12~36 days. 43 treated cases were all effective.
