Lignum Aquilariae agallochae

Lignum Aquilariae agallochae is the wood containing resin of Aquilaria sinensis (Lour.) Gilg (Fam. Thymelaeaceae) or Aquilaria agallocha. The drug is collected all the year round, removed from the part without resin, and dried in shade.

The herb is indicated in the treatment of epilepsy, senile ileus, gastric pain, urinary tract stone and mania etc..

The herb contains volatile oil which includes benzylacetone and p-methoxybenzylacetone. The other constituents include cinnamic acid and terpenol etc..

Anti-bacterial effect

chen xiang decoction had completely inhibitory effect on tubercle bacillus. It also had strong anti-bacterial effect on typhoid bacillus and Shigella flexneri.

Epilepsy

Xian Ling (experiential formula): chen xiang 15g, peng sha 20g, dai zhe shi 30g, duan qing meng shi 20g, quan xie 15g, quan wu gong 20 pieces, hai fu shi 18g, ban xia 16g, dan nan xing 15g, nao sha 6g, ci shi 30g, qian niu zi 50g, shi chang pu 20g, chen qu 60g. With exuberant Phlegm Fire, add zhi zi and huang qin; with exuberant Wind Phlegm, add bai jiang can; with Kidney deficiency, add shan yao, xian mao; with Blood stasis, add da huang; with qi deficiency, add powder of zi he che. All the herbs were grounded into fine powder, 6~10g, bid, taken with empty stomach. 43 cases were treated for 50 days to 20 months, 22 cases were cured, 16 improved and 5 ineffective.

Senile ileus

chen xiang 6g, honey 120g, lard 15g. After gastrointestinal decompression, take chen xiang decoction first, then honey and lard. Patients took the position of semireclining position, reduce activities. 20 cases were treated and the effects were satisfactory.

Gastric pain

chen xiang 20g, mu xiang 20g, yan hu 50g and bai zhu 20g were grounded into fine powder, 2g tid. The method could be used to treat gastric pain.

Angina pectoris

bi bo, xi xin, chuan xiong, xiang fu and chen xia were made into preparation of 1g crude drug per ml, 20ml bid, taken through aerosol inhalation. 1 month as a course of treatment, 29 cases out of 32 cases were effective.

Urinary tract stone

ji xing zi, wang bu liu xing, chi shao, hua shi, ze xie, yan hu, yuan ming fen, gui wei, di long, niu xi, 9g each; fu ling 15g; chen xiang, gan cao, 3g each. Water decoction, 1 dose every day. After 5~15 days' treatment, all 19 cases were effective.

Mania

da ji, gan cao, da huang, yuan ming fen, zhi ke, meng shi, huang qin, chen xiang, 10g each; lian zi xin 3g. TCM differentiation, water decoction. After 2~6 doses, 8 out of 10 cases were effective.
