Hematitie is a black or blackish-red to brick-red mineral, essentially Fe2O3, the chief ore of iron. It's grubbed out, removed from earth, washed clear and smashed. Then it could be useed directly or vinegar-prepared and dried.

The drug is used to treat emptysis due to senile bronchodilatation, chronic bronchitis, Pylorospasm, hemorrhage of the upper digestive tract, Meniere's syndrome and morning sickness, etc..

Astringing effect on the gastrointestinal wall

Oral administration of dai zhe shi could astringe the gastrointestinal wall, protect the mucous membrane, and be absorbed into blood to promote the generation of RBC and hemoglobin.

Others

Injection of dai zhe shi solution to anaesthetized rabbits could excite the peristalsis. The solution could also significantly ecite the isolated small intestine of guinea pigs. At large doses, it had inhibitory effect on isolated frog hearts.

Emptysis due to senile bronchodilatation

Mi Hong Dan (dai zhe shi, sheng da huang, 6g each; rou gui, 3g, grouded into fine powder and divided into 6 sachets, 1 sachet, tid). .36 cases of emptysis due to senile bronchodilatation were treated. If the bleeding was not stopped after 3 days, the dose would be doubled. 3 days as a course of treatment, usually 1~3 courses totally. 36 cases were treated, 26 were markedly effective, 7 effective and 3 ineffective.

Chronic bronchitis

Yun Ke Ping syrup (made from xia ku cao, fa ban xia, dai zhe shi, che qian cao), oral administration, 20ml, tid. 38 cases of chronic bronchitis were treated, after 3~5 days treatment, the symptoms were obviously relieved and the effective rate was over 90%.

Pylorospasm

dai zhe shi, niu xi, 10g each, grounded into powder and divided into 24 portions, 1 portion, bid to tid. 19 cases of pylorospasm were treated, and 13 were cured, 5 markedly effective and 1 ineffective.

Hemorrhage of the upper digestive tract

Modified Zhe Shi Wu Qian Tang (dai zhe shi, wu bei zi, qian shi) was used to treat 254 cases of hemorrhage of the upper digestive tract, and 241 effective, 12 improved, 1 ineffective.

Meniere's syndrome

sheng dai zhe shi 45g, fa ban xia 18g, che qian cao 18g, xia ku cao 18g. Water decoction, 1 dose every day. The drugs could also be made into syrup, 20ml, tid. 86 cases of Meniere's syndrome were treated, 58 were cured, 20 improved, 4 effective and 4 ineffective.

Morning sickness

Zhe Ban Tang (dai zhe shi 30g, ban xia 30g, honey 100g, 1 dose each day) was used as the main formula which was modified according to accompanied symptoms to treat 64 cases of morning sickness, 59 were cured and 5 improved.
