Fructus Jujubae is the dried ripe fruit of Ziziphus jujuba Mill (Fam. Rhamnaceae). The drug is collected in autumn when ripe, and dried in the sun.

Miscellaneous effect

Mice treated with gastrogavage of da zao decoction for 3 weeks had significant increase of body onload="highlight();" weight and swimming time, which indicating that it could increase the muscle strength. da zao contains cAMP-like active substance which could increase cAMP in WBC. Alcohol extract of da zao could inhibit the generation of antibody onload="highlight();" in specific reaction diseases. da zao decoction could protect the liver. Decoction of da zao and celery could lower cholesterol . da zao had certain inhibitory effect on adenocarcinoma of stomach induced by MNNG in rats.

Staphylococcal pneumonia

Supplemented Wen Dan Tang: zhi shi, zhu ru, ban xia, fu ling, 10g each; chen pi 12g; gan cao, sheng jiang, da zao, 6g each. Modify the formula according to TCM differentiation. 2 doses each day, water decoction being taken in four times. After 3 days, 1 dose every day. 100 cases of staphylococcal pneumonia were treated and 97 were effective.

Depression

Supplemented Gan Mai Da Zao Tang: zhi gan cao 5~10g; xiao mai 30g; da zao 5 pieces; suan zao ren 15g; yuan zhi, xiang fu, chai hu, yu jin, xiang yuan pi, 10g each. Modify the formula according to TCM differentiation. 1 dose every day, water decoction. 40 cases of depression were treated and 37 effective.

Habitual miscarriage

Zhu Ma Tang: zhu ma 120~200g; sang ji sheng, sheng di, shu di, 15g each; ren shen 5~10g; huang qin, bai zhu, xu duan, 10g each; jiao gu lan 60g; su geng, e jiao zhu, 10~20g; da zao 5~10 pieces, gan cao 6g. Modify the formula according to TCM differentiation. 105 cases of habitual miscarriage were treated and 94 effective.

Congestive heart failure

Modified Fang Ji Fu Ling Tang: fang ji, fu ling, da zao, 15g each; huang qi, dang shen, 20g each; gui zhi, chuan xiong, che qian cao, ze xie, bai jie zi, lai fu zi, su zi, 9g each; ting li zi 30g; dan shen, 18g. 1 dose every day, water decoction, 30~40 days as a course of treatment, 1~2 courses totally. Routine treatment of western medicine was also applied. 42 cases out of 60 treated patients were effective. 52 cases out of 80 patients in the control group treated with western medicine only were effective.

Peptic ulcer and chronic gastritis

Modified Ban Xia Xie Xin Tang: dang shen 15g; ban xia, gan jiang, zhi gan cao, 10g each; huang lian 3g; huang qin 6g; da zao 4 pieces. Modify the formula according to TCM differentiation. 1 dose every day, water decoction, 10 days as a course of treatment. 74 out of 85 treated cases were effective.
