Herba Potentillae is the whole plant of Potentilla discolor Bge (Fam. Rosaceae). It's collected before blossoming in summer and autumn, dried in the sun.

Anti-bacterial effect |
The decoction of the whole plant of fan bai cao had inhibitory effect on Shigella dysenteriae, Shigella flexneri, staphylococcus aureus and typhoid bacillus. |
Influence over blood sugar |
fan bai cao had no obvious lowering effect on fasting blood sugar in normal rats, but could lower increased blood sugar level caused by glucose, improve glucose tolerance of rats, and lower fasting blood glucose in rats with diabetes induced by alloxan. Bacterial and amebic dysentery |
Whole plant or root of fresh fan bai cao 50~100g, concentrated decoction, taken in 2~3 times daily. The method could be used to treat bacterial and amebic dysentery. |
