gou qi can increase the function of non-specific immunity, it can obviously increase the phagocytic ability of reticuloendothelial system in mice, the phagocytosis percentage and index of phagocytes, serum lysozyme activity and valence of antibody onload="highlight();" , etc..

Lysozyme activity, IgG, IgA and lymphocyte transformation rate could all be obviously increased in senile volunteers after they took gou qi at the dosage of 50g/day for 10 days, and the increasing of cAMP showed statistic significance, cGMP decreased obviously which made the ratio of cAMP/cGMP rose again, the level of testosterone increased obviously too.

gou qi can lower the cholesterol in the blood of rat. It can promote the regeneration of liver cells.

Subcutaneous injection of gou qi extract at the dosage of 6g/kg can decrease the blood sugar of rabbits by 13% within 2~3 hours, then the sugar level will return gradually. Extracts of Nin Xia gou qi can lower the blood sugar of rats obviously and persistently and increase the sugar tolerance.

Administration through gastrogavage of 0.5ml 10% gou qi decoction in normal mice for successive 10 days could promote the hematopoiesis and increase the numbers of white blood cells and lymphocytes. gou qi can also promote the generation of RBC and hemoglobin, and elevate platelets.

Combined with cyclophosphamide, gou qi showed better inhibitory effect on tumor weight of W256 than that of single application of cyclophosphamide, in addition, it could relieve leukopenia caused by cyclophosphamide. gou qi had an inhibitory rate of 42% on S180 in mice, and it didn't show obvious inhibitory effect on other transplanted tumor. Single employment of gou qi didn't show obvious anticancer effect. In vitro, it showed inhibitory effect on cultured strain of human cervical cancer cell JTC-26.

Water extract of gou qi can lower blood pressure, inhibit the heart, excite the intestine. Its decoction can excite isolated uterus, water extract has estrogen-like function that shows weight-increasing function on uterus.

gou qi was made into powder after being cleaned and dried, 20g every day, take the drug in two times after chewing, 2 months as a course of treatment. 20 cases were treated, 15 were markedly effective, 5 effective.

15g gou qi was taken after chewing every night, 1 month as a course of treatment. Continue another one month after routine semen examination showed a normal result. 42 cases were treated, and semen examination turned normal in 33 patients which all had offspring later.

gou qi 30g every day, take it with water in the morning and evening, 5 cases were treated. After 4 months' treatment, the body onload="highlight();" weights of them returned to normal range.

Jiang Zhi Granule (gou qi, nu zhen zi, brown sugar) was taken 30 minutes after meal, twice every day, 4~6 weeks as a course of treatment. 406 cases were treated. The results showed that this herb had very significant therapeutic effect on various type of hyperlipoidemia (P<0.01). Its triglyceride-lowering and b-lipoprotein-lowering effects were similar to those of clofibrate, its cholesterol-lowering effect was better than that of clofibrate, but without the adverse effects of the latter.

gou qi 50g, huang qin 50g were soaked in boiling water, drink the water when it becomes cooler. 200 cases of vomiting of pregnancy were treated, the effective rate was 95%.
