Plastrum Testudinis

Plastrum Testudinis is the carapace and plastron of Chinemys reevesii (Gray) (Fam. Emydidae). The animal is captured all the year round, but usually in autumn and winter, killed or scalded to death by boiling water. The drug is collected, removed from the remaining muscles, and dried in the sun.

Analgesic effect

gui ban could significantly increase the threshold of pain in rats with yin deficiency of hyperthyroidism, and lower the plasma viscosity.

Anti-radiation effect

gui ban could increase the survival rate of rats exposed to 60Co radiation, elevate WBC and platelet. It could stop diarrhea caused by radiation.

Anti-tumor effect

gui ban could improve the anti-tumor immunity, its extract had inhibitory effect on S180, ehrlich carcinoma and live cancer of ascitic type.

Others

gui ban could bi-directionally regulate the synthesis of DNA, it could contract the rat uterine at high concentrations. It also had anti-febrile, sedative and human TB inhibitory effect.

Cerebral concussion and brain trauma (convalescent stage)

gui ban, gou teng, sheng long gu, sheng mu li, 30g each; yuan zhi, ze xie, dang gui, ye ju hua, 9g each; suan zao ren, shi jue ming, 15g each; chuan xiong, gan cao, 6g each. The formula was used to treat 110 cases of cerebral concussion and 5 cases of brain trauma in convalescent stage, all cases were clinically cured and improved.

Hypermenorrhea

gui ban (decocted first) 30g, lu jiao shuang (taken with water) 6g, dang shen 15g, gou qi 9g, e jiao 9g (melted), bai cao shuang 9g (wrapped), sheng di 9g, huang qi 9g. Modify the formula according to TCM differention. 10 cases of hypermenorrhea were treated, and it took effect after 3~5 doses.

Chronic hepatitis

Fu Fang San Jia San Chong Ji (experimential formula): gui ban, bie jia, chuan shan jia, huang qi, dan shen, chi shao, yu jin, tao ren, ji nei jin. All drugs were made into granule, 5g, tid, 3 months as a course of treatment. 48 cases were treated. 42 cases had elevated albumin and 28 cases had lowered globin.

Leukopenia

Bu Shen Yi Jing Sheng Bai Tang (experimential formula): lu jiao jiao, gui ban jiao, 12g each (melted), tu si zi, bu gu zhi, ba ji tian, du zhong, shan yu rou, bai zhu, 10g each; gou qi, fu ling, 12g; huang qi 30g; hong shen 5g. Modify the formula according to TCM differention. 1 dose every day. 73 out of 78 treated cases were effective.
