Pharmacological actions |
Anoxia tolerance effect |
The water soluble part of gui jian yu could improve anoxia tolerance in mice. Under anoxic conditions, it could increase the survival rate and lengthen the survival time of mice. |
Effects on heart |
The water soluble part of gui jian yu could increase the contracting amplitude of frog heart, increase its output and slightly quicken the heart rate. The effect was especially obvious in the condition of heart failure, but increasing the dosage would have an opposite effect, and the heart would stop in the diadtolic phase. It also had protecting effect on acute myocardial ischemia induced by pituitrin in rats and Guinea pigs. It could alleviate the arrhythmia T wave change induced by injection of KCl in Guinea pigs. |
Effects on hemodynamics |
Intravenous injection of gui jian yu in femoral vein could increase the blood flow amount and decrease the resistance of coronary artery, lower oxygen consumption and improve ischemic condition in the cardiac muscle. Small dosage injection into femoral artery could dilate distal vessels, lower the resistance of distal vessels and increase blood flow amount. |
Blood pressure lowering effect |
Intravenous injection of gui jian yu preparation could rapidly lower the blood pressure of cat, rabbit and dog within 1 minute, and within 5 minutes, the blood pressure could be restored to original level. |
Effect of regulating blood fat |
Water decoction of gui jian yu could lower serum total cholesterol, increase HDL2-C, obviously lower HDL3-C, and increase the activity of LCAT. It could delay the formation of atherosclerosis. |
Blood sugar lowering effect |
Sodium oxaloacetic acid extracted from gui jian yu decoction could lower blood sugar and urine sugar, and increase body onload="highlight();" weight in normal rabbits or rabbits with diabetes induced by alloxan. For normal anaesthesized dog, intravenous drip could obviously lower the blood sugar. |
Central sedative effect |
The water soluble part of gui jian yu had sedative effect on mice, the effect was obvious when the dosage increased. It could also obviously increase the central inhibitory effect of pentobarbitale sodium and thiopentone sodium. |
Anti-tumor effect |
1,2:5,6-dianhydrogalactitol had certain curative effect on lung cancer, adrenal cancer, bladder cancer, laryngeal carcinoma and neuroglioma. Dianhydrogalactitol had therapeutic effect on leukemia.
