Semen Sojae nigrum is the black dried mature seed of Glycine soja sieb. Et Zucc. Or Glycine max (L.) Merr. (Fam. Leguminosae).

hei dou is rich in proteins, fat and carbohydrate, and carotene, Vit B1, B2, etc.. It also contains isoflavones including daidzin and genistin, saponins including soyasapogenol A, B, C, D and E.

Miscellaneous effects

Daidzin and genistin contained in hei dou had estrogen-like effect. Daidzin could relieve the spasm of isolated small intestine of mice.
