Herb Sargentodoxa is the rattan of Sargentodoxa cuneata (Oliv.) Rehd. Et Wils. It's collected in summer, removed from twigs and leaves, sliced when fresh, and dried in the sun.

Anti-bacterial effect

hong teng had inhbiotry effect on staphylococcus aureus, streptococcus B and bacillus pyocyaneus, etc..

Others

Water soluable extract of hong teng could inhibit platelet aggragation and thrombosis, and increase the blood flow volume in the coronary vessels in in vitro and in vivo tests. It could also increase the anoxic tolerance, dilate the coronary artery and reduce the range of myocardial infarction.

Acute appendicitis

Fu Fang Hong Teng Tablet was made at the proportion of hong teng 60g, pu gong ying 60g, sheng da huang 18g, chuan po 1g. 4 tablets, tid. The method was used to treat 1213 cases of acute simple and early suppurative appendicitis, and the effect was satisfactory.

Chronic pelvic inflammation

Hong Teng Bai Jiang Tang (hong teng, bai jiang cao, pu gong ying, 30g each; zi hua di ding, ye ju hua, jin yin hua, 20g each). The drugs were made into 100ml juice of 30ˇăC for 3 hours' retention enema, once daily, 10 times as a course of treatment. The total effective rate was 98%.

Senile acute biliary tract infections

Jing Hong Tang (Hong Teng 60g, pu gong ying 30g, sheng da huang 9g (decocted alter), chuan po 9g), 1 dose daily, with 9g xuan ming fen being taken with water; or Jing Hong Pian (15 tablets containging Hong Teng 60g, pu gong ying 30g, and sheng da huang powder 1.5g), 5 tablets, tid. The etotal effective rate was 87.1%.
