Fructus Hordei Vulgaris is the dried germinated ripe fruit of Hordeum vulgare L. (Fam. Gramineae). The fruit is soaked in water at an appropriate temperature and moisture until the budlet grows up to about 5 mm long, and dried.

mai ya mainly contains amylase including a and b, malt sugar, dextrin, protein, fatty oil, Vit B and hordenine, etc..

Miscellaneous effects

mai ya could promote digestion as it contains amylase and vit B, etc.. Water deccotion of 100~200g sheng mai ya could inhibit the release peak of galactagogin, and the conditions of simple galactorrhea in most patients would disappear or be relieved.

Promoting lactation

dang gui, tong cao, sheng mai ya, chuan xiong, vinegar-prepared chuan shan jia, lou lu, di huang, huang qi, lu jiao shuang, bai shao, mu xiang and fried wang bu liu xing were made into honeyed pill of 9 g each, 1 pill, bid.

Lowering blood fat

Mai An Granule: bei shan zha, mai ya, 18g each sachet. 1 sachet, bid. The medicine could lower serum cholesterol, triglyceride and prevent atherosclerosis.

Stopping milk secretions

chao mai ya 30~90g, water decoction. Take the juice in the morning and eveing.

Non-ulcerative indigestion

chai hu, ban xia, yuan hu, sha ren, 10g each; bai shao, dang shen, 12g each; mai ya, gu ya, dan shen, 30g each; zhi ke, bai zhu, 15g each; gan cao 6g.
