Radix Fagopyri cymosi is the rhizoma and root tuber of Fagopyrum cymosum (Trev.) Meissn (Fam. Polygonaceae). It's collected in autumn, washed clean, dried in the sun and sliced into pieces.

jin qiao mai contains dimeric proanthocyanidin, hecogenin, b-sitosterol, p-coumaric acid, ferulic acid and shakuchirin, etc..

Anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory effects

jin qiao mai had anti-bacterial effect on staphylococcus aureus, pneumococcus, bacillus coli and bacillus pyocyaneus. The effect of its tincture was stronger than its water decoction.

Anti-tumor effect

jin qiao mai had significant inhibitory effect on the clone formation of human lung adenocarcinoma, nasopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma, stomach adenocarcinoma and cervical squamous cell carcinoma, and the effect was in direct ratio to the concentration.

Influence over the respiratory system

Oral administration of jin qiao mai extracturm had slight anti-tussive effect.

Pulmonary abscess

Dimeric proanthocyanidin isolated from jin qiao mai was used to treat 49 cases of pulmonary abscess. Results: 39 were cured, 6 improved and 4 ineffective.

Bacillary dysentery

jin qiao mai, 10~15g, water decoction, and the therapeutic effect was satisfactory.
