Caulis Milletiae Seu Spatholobi is the dried viny stem of Millettia dielsiana Harms ex Diels and Millettia reticulata Benth (Fam. Leguminosae). The drug is collected in autumn and winter, removed from the branch and leaf, cut into slice, and dried in the sun.

Effects on blood rheology

ji xue teng could lower platelet adhesiveness and activities of fibrinogen. Extracts of ji xue teng had anti-coagulant effect and could promote protein solution.

Effects on nervous system

ji xue teng had excitatory effect on respiratory center, and could improve anoxic tolerance of cerebral tissues. Intraperitoneal injection of ji xue teng tincture (10mg/kg) had sedative and hypnotic effects.

Effects on cardiovascular system

ji xue teng could decrease the blood flow volume of the coronary artery of isolated hearts of rats. It could obviously decrease the heart rate. Ji xue teng had obvious and persistent blood pressure lowering effect which was accompanied with increased heart rate and myocardial contractive in anaesthetized rats. The blood pressure lowering effect was dosage dependent.

Blood enriching effect

ji xue teng could elevate hemoglobin and increase blood cells in rabbits with anemia.

Effects on the uterus

ji xue teng had excitatory effect on animals' uteruses.

Leukopenia

Sheng Bai Fu Zheng Oral Liquid: hong shen 6g, ji xue teng 45g, sheng huang qi 30g, zhi shou wu 15g and mu xiang 6g were made into 60ml oral liquid. 20ml, bid. 31 cases of leukopenia due to radiotherapy were treated and 27 were effective.

Primary thrombocytopenic purpura

Zi Dian Su Tang (experimential formula): ji xue teng 60g; shu di, xuan shen, mai dong 30g, each; qian cao, bu gu zhi, zi cao, sheng di, 20g each; bai shao, bai zhu, dang gui, 15g each; e jiao (melted), gan cao 10g each; san qi 4g. All drugs were grounded into powder and taken with water. Modify the formula according to accompanied symptoms. 30 days as a course of treatment, and the course lasted no more than 4 courses. 68 cases were treated, and all were effective except 3 cases.

Acute diarrhea

ji xue teng 60g was decocted with 600ml water to get 200ml juice, which was being taken in 2~3 times, 1 dose every day, 4 doses totally. Among 18 treated cases, 16 were cured, 1 improved and 1 ineffective.

Amenorrhea

Ji Xue Teng syrup, 10~30ml ,tid, 1~4 weeks as a course of treatment.
