This herb is the dried leaf of Eriobotrya japonica (Thunb. ) Lindl. (Fam. Rosaceae). The drug is collected all year round, tired up in small bundles after partial drying, and dried in the sun.

This herb is often indicated in the treatment of acne, chronic bronchitis, globus hysterics, vomiting of pregnancy, chronic gastritis and whooping cough, etc..

Pi Pa Ye contains essential oil, nerolidol, farbesol, linalool, amygdalin, saponin, maloic acid, oleanolic acid, tartaric acid, citric acid, malic acid, tannide, Vit B and C, etc..

Miscellaneous

pi pa ye could inhibit influenza virus. The saponin contained in it had expectorant effect. It had no antibacterial effect.

Acne

Pi Pa Qing Fei Yin: pi pa ye 10g, sang bai pi 10g, huang qin 12g, ye ju hua 12g, chi shao 10g, bai bao gen 30g, sheng huai hua 15g, ku shen 10g, huang lian 6g. With profuse sebum, add yi yi ren 30g, sheng bai zhu 12g; with pustules, add pu gong ying 15g, di ding 10g; with nodules or cysts, add xia ku cao 12g, zhe bei mu 9g. Water decoction. Dapsone was applied simultaneously. 7 days as a course of treatment. 50 cases were treated, and 20 wer cured, 16 markedly effective, 10 effective, 4 ineffective. The group treated with TCM only had an effective rate of 60%, while the group treated with western medicine only was 67%. The cured cases took the medicine form 6 courses.

Chronic bronchitis

pi pa ye 90g, jie geng 150g were put into 3000ml water and decocted into 2000ml juice. Add 240ml simple syrup, 10ml every time, three times daily, 20 days as a course of treatment. 167 cases were treated, and 137 cases were effective.

Globus hystericus

pi pa ye 30g, water decoction. This method was used to treat 5 cases of globus hystericus and had certain effects.

Vomiting of pregnancy

ren shen, mai dong, pi pa ye, huang qin, bai zhu, 10g each; fu ling 15g; zhu ru prepared with ginger, 12~20g; chen pi, gan cao, da zao, 6g each; fa ban xia 12g. 1 dose every day, water decoction. 51 cases of vomiting of pregnancy were treated, 48 cases were effective.

Chronic gastritis

gan cao, 3g; jie geng, 6g; yu jin, zhi ke, 9g each; zhi pi pa ye, zi wan, 12g each. 1 dose every day, 20 days as a course of treatment. 130 out of the treated 137 cases of chronic gastritis were effective.

Whooping cough syndrome

mai dong, tian dong, sha shen, ye bai he, 9g each; gua lou ren, bai bu, jie geng, 8g each; mu hu die, ju hong, 6g each; pi pa ye 15g. 1 dose every day. 54 out of the treated 60 cases of whooping cough syndrome were effective.
