Radix Peuceedani is the dried root of Peucedanum praeruptorum Dunn or Peucedanum decursivum Maxim . (Fam. Umbelliferae). The drug is collected in winter and next spring, when stem and leaves wither or before floral stem grows, removed from rootlet, wash clean and dried in the sun or at a low temperature.

qian hu is indicated in the treatment of respiratory tract diseases, acute viral hepatitis, and angina pectoris, etc..

Expectorant effect

qu hu decoction could increase the secretions of respiratory tract, which indicated that it had expectorant effect.

Anti-bacterial effect

Decursin had anti-bacterial and anti-fungi effects. qian hu decoction had inhibitory effect on some viruses.

Anti-thrombin effect

Original liquid of qian hu diluted by 5 times and 20 times had strong anti-thrombin effect.

Effect on the cardiovascular system

Praeruptorin C could increase the blood flow volume of coronary vessles.

Whooping cough

qian hu, jing jie, bai bu, tao ren, bei mu, xing ren, 5g each; jie geng 9g; chen pi, bai jiang can, di long, 9g; gan cao 3g. The formula was modified to treat 40 cases of infantile whooping cough, 1 dose daily. After 6~10 doses, 33 were cured, and 7 improved.

Acute viral hepatitis

dang shen, fu ling, zhi ke, jie geng, qian hu, chuan xiong, qiang huo, du huo, gan cao, 9g; bo he 3g; sheng jiang 3 pieces. The formula was modified to treat 152 cases of acute viral hepatitis, and 139 cases were effective. HBsAg negative change rate was 29%.

Angina pectoris due to coronary heart disease

huang qi, ge gen, dan shen, suan zao ren, 30g each; qian hu 12g; xi xin 3g; qiang huo 6g. Modify the formula according to TCM differentiation. 33 out of treated 35 cases were effective.
