 Pharmacological actions Back to Top
Effects on immune system

Water decoction of rou cong rong at the concentration of 5mg/ml can obviously increase Ea formation rate of peripheral lymphocytes, but it had no obvious influences over Et formation rate. At a high concentration of 50mg/ml, it can inhibit the formation rate of Ea and Et. Both high and low concentration could lower AN, Ae+ lymphocyte percentage. Gastrogavage of aqueous extract of rong cong rong at the dosage of 50mg/kg and 100mg/kg can both significantly increase the weight of the spleen and thymus gland, and increase the delayed hypersensitivity in mice induced by sheep red cell. It can significantly increase the 3H-TaR amount of percolation of peripheral lymphocyte in mice.

Effects on injury caused by free radical

Aqueous solution of rou cong rong at the dosage of 2.5, 12.5, 31.25g/kg can obviously increase the SOD activity of mice red cells, obviously lower the lipofuscin content in cardiac muscle. It can restore the SOD activity and hemoglobin content in mice with yang deficiency caused by cortisone. Gastrogavage of water decoction of rong cong rong at the dosage of 8g/kg can significantly increase the activity of Na+-K+-ATP enzyme.

Effects on metabolism

Gastrogavage of rou cong rong decoction at the dosage of 3g/kg can antagonize the protein breakdown caused by heavy burden so as to decrease the serum urea nitrogen. rou cong rong can obviously increase the synthesis rate of DNA in the liver and spleen in mice with yang deficiency caused by hydroxyurea, promote the synthesis of RNA, increase the metabolism of nucleic acid, and increase the body onload="highlight();" weight of mice.

Chemical compounds contained in rou cong rong such as cistanosides A and C can antagonize the decreased ability of study and sexual function in male mice caused by suspending stress. rou cong rong can increase the yellow-body onload="highlight();" promoting function of the hypothalamus-pituitary-ovary axis so as to increase the reaction of pituitary to luteinizing hormone releasing hormone and ovary to luteotropin.

Anti-aging effect

rou cong rong can prolong the life-span of fruit fly. Water decoction of rou cong rong can increase the anoxia tolerance under normal pressure of mice and prolong the weight-borne swimming time. It has obvious weight-increasing function in mice with yang deficiency induced by cortisone and obviously prolong the cold tolerance time.

Other functions

rou cong rong decoction can increase the blood corticosterone in normal male rats and lower serum T3, but it doesn't increase the level of serum testosterone. Alcohol leach liquor of rou cong rong has blood pressure lowering effect on anaesthetized animals.
