Herba Duchesneae indicae is the whole plant of Duchesnea indica (Andr.) Focke (Fam. Rosaceae). It's collected in spring or autumn, washed, dried or used freshly.

This herb can be indicated in the treatment of dysentery, enteritis, diphtheria, cervical scrofula, burn, scald, snake bite and boils.

The main chemical constituents contained in she mei include furmaric acid, fumaric acid monomethylestor, daucosterol, brevifolin, kaempfcritrin, promolic acid, ursolic acid, euscaphic acid and b-sitosterol.

Anti tumor effect

Extracts of she mei which were equal to 5, 10, 15mg/ml raw drug had quite strong inhibitory effect of the growth of cancer cells. After being processed 48 hours at the dosage of 15mg/ml , cancer cells would completely lose it regeneration ability, and the cell DNA synthesis could also be inhibited.

Gastrogavage of water extract infusion of she mei for consecutive 10 days to mice inoculated with S180, H22 and S37 had tumor inhibitory effects. It had an tumor inhibitory rate of on S37 was 70% at the dosage of 5.2g/kg, 59% and 31% on S180 and H22 respectively at the dosage of 10.4g/kg. in vitro experiments showed that it had obvious killing effect of human liver tumor, stomach cancer and Eca109. At the dosage of 0.4mg/ml, it had a 100% killing rate.

Immune enhancing effect

Fluid extract of she mei had obvious promoting effect on the phagocytosis of macrophages of mice. she mei had obvious anticoagulant effect, it had no protective effect on RBC membrane.

Bacterial-inhibiting effect

she mei had inhibitory effect on staphylococcus aureus, meningococcus, bacillus dysenteriae, bacillus typhosus and bacilius diphtheriae. The higher the concentration was, the stronger the bacterial inhibiting effect was.

Blood pressure lowering effect

She Mei Injection had temporary blood pressure lowering effect on anaesthetized rabbits or dogs, this effect couldn't be weakened by injection of atropine or severing of both pneumogastric nerves.

Uterine exciting effect

Fluid extract and injection of she mei had excitatory effect on isolated Guinea pigs and rats' uterine and in situ rabbit uterine.

Effect of inhibiting central nervous system

Gastrogavage of alcohol extract (10~50g/kg) and water extract (50g/kg) had obvious inhibitory effect on the central nervous system in mice.

Cancers

she mei 15g, long kui 30g, bai ying 30g, hai jin sha 9g, tu fu ling 30g, deng xin cao 9g, wei ling xian 9g, and bai hua she she cao 30g were used to treat 21 cases of bladder cancer. 5-year survival rate was 90.74%.

she mei could also be used in the treatment of rectal cancer, nasopharyngeal cancer, liver cancer, lung cancer and stomach cancer, ete..

Chronic pharyngitis

Fresh whole plant of she mei 100~200g or dried one 10~50g, water decoction, 20 days as a course of treament. 65 cases of chronic pharyngitis were treated with this method, 8 were clinically cured, 44 markedly effective, 13 effective.

Diphtheria

She Mei Infusion was used to treat diphitheria, 4 times daily. 471 cases of diphtheria were treated, and the curative rate was 85%.

Mumps

Fresh whole plant of she mei was applied externally to the affected area after treating mumps with acupuncture. Change the dressing once daily. 42 epidemic mumps were treated, and all were cured.

Bacillary dysentery

She Mei Syrup, 20~40ml, 3 times day, 5~7 days as a course of treatment. 50 days were observed, 46 cases were cured, 1 improved, and 3 ineffective.

Shingles

Oral administration of fresh she mei or external application of fresh she mei juice were used to treat 125 cases of shingles, 118 cases were generally cured within 5 days, after 7 days' treatment, all cases were cured.
