Moschus is the dried secretion of the musk sac of adult male Moschus berezovskii Flerov, Moschus sifanicus Przewalski or Moschus moschiferus Linnaeus (Fam. Cervidae). Usually the wild musk deer is hunted from winter to next spring. The musk sac is cut off, dried in shade, which is known as "Maoke Shexiang" (Musk with hairy sac) the musk sac is opened, removed from the sac wall, the drug thus obtained is known as "musk (Shexiang ren)". For the domestic musk deer, the "Shexiang ren" is taken from the musk sac directly, dried in shade or in desiccator.

| Effects on the heart |
she xiang had strong cardiotonic effect; it could prevent and treat ischemic heart disorders due to thrombus. |
| Influence over the blood flow volume of the coronary artery |
she xiang could increase the blood flow volume of the coronary artery in experimental animals. |
| Effects on the blood system |
Muscone had erythrocytolysis effect on rabbits. The aggregation of platelet treated with muscone would be significantly lowered and it's dosage-dependent. |
| Effects on the central nervous system |
Muscone could antagonize the convulsion induced by nicotine. It could lower the toxicity of nicotine but increase the toxicity of strychnine. she xiang had bi-directional effect on the central nervous system, excitory at low dosages and inhibitory at large dosages. It could also increase the anoxic and analgesic effect of CNS. |
| Anti-cancer effect |
Muscone could kill isolated cancer cells of ehrlich carcinoma etc. in mice. It could inhibit the cellular respiration in cancer tissues in animals. |

she xiang had anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial effects. It could excite isolated uterus of rats, rabbits and guinea pigs. It had androgen-like effect. she xiang could inhibit the ulcer formation rate in rats with pylorus ligation and inhibit the secretions of gastric juice.

| Angina pectoris due to coronary heart disease |
Muscone Tablet and aerosol were used to treat 71 cases of angina pectoris. The effective rate was 60%, and the EKG improving rate was 21.2%~40.9%. |
| Cerebral thrombosis |
she xiang, shui zhi, san qi, tian ma, wu shao she, da huang, huang qi, chi shao and gui wei, etc. were made into She Xiang Kang Shuan Wan, 1 pill, tid, two weeks as a course of treatment, and the total effective rate was 92.1%. It had good effect on those with couses less than 1 month. For those with courses over 1 year, the effect was poor. |
| Ovary cancer |
Hua Can Wan (niu huang and she xiang of equal amount), 3g, bid. Other TCM drugs were combined according to accompanied symptoms. Take the medicine for 1~2 years, in the year of 3~5 years, take the medince for 3 months every year. 40 cases were effective, 4 ineffective and the total effective rate was 91%. 10 cases survived for over 1 year, 15 for 1~3 years, 12 for 3~5 years and 7 for 5 years. |
| Infantile convulsion due to high fever |
she xiang, bing pian, jiang huang, yu jin and ba dou were grounded int ofine powder and made into She Xiang Bing San, 1g each bottle. 0.2g/kg each time for oral administration, nasal feed for enema retention. The treatment may repeat after 2 hours. Results: 25 cases were cured, 11 markedly effective, 5 effective, 2 ineffective, the total effective rate was 96. |
| Vascular headache |
Muscone Tablet (1.5mg) was used to treat vascular headache. In several severe cases, synthesized muscone injection 1ml was admnisrated. 1~2 times daily, the total effective rate was 80%. |
| Prostatitis |
she xiang 0.5g and 7 grains of white pepper were grounded into powder to apply externally to the navel. Change the drug every 7~10 days, 10 days as a course of treatment with an interval of 5~7 days. 11 cases were treated, 6 were cured, 3 improved, and 2 interrupted. |
| Chronic hepatitis and hepatocirrhosis in early stage |
50% She Xiang Injection was injected to two points of Zhang Men and Qi Men, each point 2ml (equal to 100mg crude drug), once every 7 days, 4 weeks as a course of treatment. 32 cases were treated. Results: Various symptoms disappeared and indices improved. |
