Rhizoma Corydalis turtschaninovii is the tuber of Cordydalis turtschaninovii Bess. F. yanhusuo Y.H. Chou et C.C. Hsii (Fam. Papaveraceae).

The herb is indicated in the treatment of pectoris angina, coronary heart disease, chronic gastritis, duodenal ulcer and various pain.

The herb contains more than 20 kinds of alkaloids including d-cordaline, dl-tetrahydropalmatine, protopine, l-tetrahydrocoptisine, l- tetrahydrocolumbamine, corybulbine, corydalis H, corydalis, corydalis J, corydalis K, dehydrocorydaline, corydalmine and dehydrocorydalmine, etc..

Effects on cardiovascular system

Water decoction and ethanol extract of yan hu suo could increase the blood flow amount in isolated rabbit coronary vessels, lower the amplitude of isolated cardiac muscle contracture in rats. Intravenous injection of ethanol extract of yan hu suo to anesthetized dogs could lower peripheral resistance and blood pressure.

Influence over digestive system

Total alkaloids of yan hu suo could antagonize the ulcer caused by ligation, stress and histamine in rats, but it had no effect on ulcer cuased by acetic acid and reserpine.

Analgesic effect

Total alkaloids of yan hu suo, d-cordaline and dl-tetrahydropalmatine could increase threshold of pain and had analgesic effect.

Others

Dl-tetrahydropalmatine could excite pituitary-adrenal gland system in animals and stimulate the secretion of adrenocorticotrophic hormone in pituitary. It also had anti-5-HT effect.

Water decoction of yan hu suo at the concentration of 1g crude drug per ml had inhibitory effect on helicobacter pylori, and the inhibition zone was 12mm.

Pectoris angina, coronary heart disease

80% ethanol extract of yan hu suo was made into tablets, 3 tablets, bid for 2~3 months. 40 cases of pectoris angina were treated, and the total effective rate was 90%.

Chronic gastritis

Oral admnistration of yan hu suo preparation which was equal to 5~10g crude drug. it had a total effective rate of 76.1% in treating chronic gastritis and duodenal ulcer.

Others

Dl-tetrahydropalmatine can be applied to various pain. For severe pain, oram administration of 100mg dl-tetrahydropalmatine had similar effect to oral administration of 25mg dolantin. It also had sedative effect.
