Fructus Citri aurantii

Fructus Citri aurantii is the dried, ripe fruit of Citrus aurantiu L. and its cultivated varieties (Fam. Rutaceae). The drug is collected in September and October when the fruit is nearly ripe. Cut in the middle into two parts, dried in the sun or at a low temperature.

The herb contains volatile oil, and its main ingredients includes limonene and linalool. The other constituents are flavones including hesperidin, naringin, synephrine and N-methyltyramine.

Effect of elevating blood pressure

Zhi Shi Injection could obviously elevate blood pressure in anesthetized dogs, and the effective ingredients were synephrine and N-methyltyramine.

Effects on the heart

Zhi Shi Injection could increase heart rate slightly in anesthetized dogs.

Effects on gastrointestinal smooth muscle

Decoction of zhi shi and zhi qiao could excite gastrointestinal smooth muscle.

Effects on the uterus

zhi ke could excite uterus in vitro of unpregnant and early-pregnant rabbits.

Other effects

zhi shi had cardiotonic effect on isolated heart, it also had diuretic and anti-allergic effects. It could inhibit helicobacter pylori and the inhibition zone was 19mm.

Hysteroptosis

zhi ke 15g and chong wei zi 15g were made into 100ml decoction, once every day, 1 month as a course of treatment. 924 cases of hysteroptosis I were treated, 602 cases were markedly effective, 173 effective and 149 ineffective.

Hepatic and splenic flexure syndrome

mu xing, hou po, da fu pi, bing lang, lai fu zi, zhi ke, 30g each; chen xiang 15g. 1 dose every day, water decoction. The symptoms were relieved after 3 days and disappeared after 7 days.

Zhi Ke and Zhi Shi are from the same plant. Zhi Shi is the immature fruit, collected in July when the fruit is green yet. They have similar functions, but Zhi Shi's are stronger. Most research is targeted at Zhi Shi.
