TIAN MA GOU TENG YIN

243 cases of ischemic stroke were treated according to the principles of differentiation. 76 cases of them were of Liver-Heat and Collaterals obstruction type, and were treated with Modified Tian Ma Gou Teng Yin. Prescription: tian ma 9g, gou teng 15g, shi jue ming 24g, zhi zi 9g, huang qin 9g, ye jiao teng 30g, du zhong 12g, fu ling 15g, niu xi 15g, sang ji sheng 24g, yi mu cao 12g, chi shao 12g. Results: 32 cases were basically cured, 20 markedly effective, 20 improved, 4 neffective (2 of them died), the effective rate was 68.42%.

213 cases of hypertension were treated according to the principles of differentiation, 22 cases of them were of the first stage, 132 second stage, 59 third stage. 115 cases were of hyperactivity of Liver-yang, and were treated with Tian Ma Gou Teng Yin or Zheng Gan Xi Feng Tang. Cases of other types were treated with corresponding formula. Results: 188 cases were markedly effective, 19 effective, 6 ineffective, the total effective rate was 97.18%.

Tian Ma Gou Teng Yin was used to treat 98 cases of vertigo. Prescription: tian ma 30g, sheng shi jue ming 40g, niu xi 30g, sang ji sheng 20g, du zhong 20g, shan zhi zi 30g, huang qin 20g, fu shen 20g, yi mu cao 30g, ye jiao teng 30g. All ingredients were decocted with water, twice a day,  the ingredients and their doses could be modified according to the symptoms and signs. Results: 65 cases were cured (all symptoms such as vertigo, blurred vision, tinnitus, sweating disappeared within two weeks after being treated), 31 cases were improved (after being treated 3~4 weeks, vertigo basically disappeared, clear vision sometimes, no tinnitus and sweating, slightly vertigo may relapse), 2 ineffective, the total effective was 97.96%.

Tian Ma Gou Teng Yin was used to treat 46 cases of facial spasm. Prescription: tian ma, gou teng, 30g each; bai shao, huang qi 15g each; dang gui, chuan xiong, niu xi, du zhong, fu ling, 12g each; gui zhi, du huo, 10g each; zhi gan cao 6g. For qi deficiency caused by prolonged illness, add dang shen; with yin-Fluid deficiency, add sheng di, mai dong; with feeling of fullness in the head and tinnitus caused by abnormal rising Liver-yang, add cao jue ming, ju hua; with concentrated and reddish urine, add mu tong, che qian cao; with constipation, add da huang, feng mi. 1 dose every day, taken after being decocted with water. 7 days as a course of treatment. If the cases were not cured, keep on the second course after 3-day’s interval. Results: 8 cases were cured (facial spasm disappeared, with normal electromyogram, and no recurrence during the 6-month’s follow-up survey), 8 markedly effective (facial spasm disappeared, but the curative effect wasn’t stable), 6 improved (the times of facial spasm attacks were less than before, electromyogram was improved).

Tian Ma Gou Teng Yin was used to treat 15 cases of infantile headache epilepsia. Prescription: gou teng 12g, shi jue ming 18g, huang qin 9g, fu ling 12g, shi chang pu 8g, bai shao 12g, ju hua 12g, nu zhen zi 12g, dan nan xing 9g. Modification could be made according to the symptoms and signs. 1 dose every day, taken after being decocted. 1 month as a course of treatment. The treating time varied from 1 month to 6 months, averagely 3 months. Results: 8 cases were markedly effective (times of attack reduced by more than 75%), 4 effective (times of attack reduced by 50%~70%), 3 cases got poor effect (times of attack reduced by 25%~50%). The effective rate was 53.3%.

150 cases of headache caused by head injury were treated according to the principles of differentiation, and the cases of hyperactivity of Liver-yang type were treated with Tian Ma Gou Teng Yin. Results: 135 cases were clinically cured, 15 clinically effective. A control group treated by western medicine was set. 35 cases of it were clinically cured, 115 clinically effective. The effective rate of TCM group was higher than that of western medicine group (P<0.01).

Tian Ma Gou Teng Yin was used to treat 38 cases of cervical spondylopathy of Liver-yang transforming into Wind type. Methods: tian ma, di long, 10g each; gou teng, bai shao, sang ji sheng, niu xi, sheng di, sheng di, sheng long gu, xi xian cao, 15g each; sheng shi jue ming 20g; sheng mu li 30g; quan xie gan cao, 5g each; 1 dose every day, decocted with water for two times, taken in two times of morning and evening. Results: 6 cases were cured, 22 markedly effective, 2 ineffective, the effective rate was 94.76%.
