XIAO FENG SAN

Modified Xiao Feng San was used to treat 124 cases of urticaria, of Wind-Heat type, add jin yin hua, wu gong, zhi zi, huang lian; of Wind-Cold type, add ma huang, gui zhi; with yang deficiency, add shou wu, wu wei zi, wu mei. One dose every day, decocted with water. Results: 85 cases were cured, 36 markedly effective, 3 ineffective.

Xiao Feng San had satisfying effects in treating rashes caused by injecting ampicillin. Main ingredients: dang gui, sheng di, hu ma ren, jing jie, fang feng, niu bang zi, chan tui, cang zhu, ku shen, duan shi gao, zhi mu 9g each, sheng gan cao, mu tong 4g each. Variations: of Wind-Heat type, add lian qiao 6g; of Warm-Heat type, remove cang zhu and add che qian zi; of Blood-Heat, add chi shao 9g; with exuberant Fire-Toxin, add sheng da huang 6g. One dose every day, decocted with water. 68 cases of this kind of rashes were treated, results: 65 cases were effective, for most patients, 1~4 dose would take effect; 3 ineffective, the total effective rate was 95.6%.

Xiao Feng San was used to treat 90 cases of balanoposthitis. The course of disease varied from 14 days to 4 months. 75 cases were in acute stage, 14 in subacute stage, 1 in chronic stage. Basic formula: jing jie, fang feng, tong cao, chan yi, ku shen, chao cang zhu, dang gui, zhi mu 10g each, sheng di 15g, sheng shi gao 20g, bai jiang chan, gan cao 5g each. 1 dose every day, taken in two times after being decocted with water, 5 days as a course of treatment. Results: all cases were cured. Among them, 85 cases were cured after one course, 2 after two courses.

29 cases of refractory atopic dermatitis after puberty were administered with Xiao Feng San for more than 8 weeks. During the treatment, adrenocorticotro or anti-allergic drugs weren’t applied. Results: the effective rate was 58.56%. For half of the patients, the treatment took effect during the first four weeks of administration. 

Xiao Feng San combing Huang Lian Jie Du Tang was used to treat 7 cases of severe adult atopic dermatitis. 1 dose every day, decocted with water, administered for more than 3 months. Results: clinical symptoms and skin lesions of 7 cases were all improved markedly. Radioallergosorbent test showed that the abnormal values of the effective cases were improved too. No side effects were observed.

40 male patients who had the history of contact dermatitis caused by raw lacquer were divided into two groups in their onset. TCM group: 19 cases, treated with supplemented Xiao Feng San; control group: 21 cases, treated with western medicine such as calcium gluconate, etc.. Results: Cases in both group were cured, and the disappearing time of fever, itch and rashes of two groups were approximately the same.

Ji used modified Xiao Feng San to treat 10 cases of psoriasis. Prescription: ku shen 20g, ju hua, sheng di, zhi zi, dan shen, cang zhu 15g each, fang feng 9g, quan chong 5g, bo he 10g, chan yi, bai xian pi, yun ling, ze xie, dang gui, jing jie 12 g each. 1 dose every day, taken in two times of morning and evening. All cases were cured (rashes and itch disappeared). No recurrence were reported during the follow-up survey ranging in time from half a year to 3 years.

Xiao Feng San combining Yi Guan Jian was used to treat 64 cases of cutaneous pruritus. Results: 53 cases were cured, 9 effective, 2 ineffective, the treating time varied from 1~7 courses (10 days as a course of treatment).

Xiao Feng San was used as the basic formula, with the ingredients and doses being modified properly, to treat 49 cases of flat wart. After being decocted, the decoction could be taken orally or applied externally. The effective rate was more that 95%. For patients with long course of disease, big and hard warts, the administration time should be prolonged.

Xiao Feng San was used to treat 100 cases of acute nephritis. Prescription: jing jie, fang feng, da li zi, dang gui, cang zhu, 10g each; chan tui, sheg gan cao, mu tong 5g each; ku shen, sheng di, chong wei zi 10~20g each; zhi mu 5~15g, shi gao 20~30g. With obvious edema, add fu ling pi, che qian zi; with skin ulcers, add zi hua de ding, pu gong ying. 1 dose every day, taken in 2~3 times. 

Modified Xiao Feng San was used to treat 36 cases of spring conjunctivitis. 19 cases were cured (symptoms of intense itch, tears, photophobia, burning sensation, discharge of mucus disappeared, the color of conjunctiva became normal, clear vision, steady therapeutic effects were shown during one year’s follow-up survey), 15 effective (various symptoms disappeared or basically disappeared, but would relapse in spring), 2 ineffective.
