Xiao Qing Long Tang showed markedly therapeutic effect in treating bronchial asthma, especially of cold type. 69 cases of adult bronchial asthma were treated with Xiao Qing Long Tang for 4~8 weeks. Bronchodilator was also administered. For some cases, steroid was used too. Results: 13 cases were markedly improved, 23 moderately improved, 19 slightly. The treatment also decreased the inhalation times of β receptor stimulant and doses of steroid.
Modified Xiao Qing Long Tang was used to treat 102 cases of infantile bronchopneumonia, the age ranged from 1~4 years, averagely 2.2 years, drugs of anti-infective, antiasthmatic and antipyretic were also administered, this was the treated group. A control group of 50 cases was set and treated with western medicine only. Results: treating time of the treated group ranged from 5 to 8 days, averagely 6.2 days; of the control group, 7~16 days, averagely 9 days.
258 cases of cough and asthma were treated with Xiao Qing Long Tang. Age of the cases varied from 6 to 67 years, courses of disease were all over 1 month. According to diagnosis of western medicine, 120 cases were acute bronchitis, 68 chronic bronchitis, 60 chronic tracheitis and acute attack of asthma, 4 emphysema, 4 pleurisy, 1 pulmonary tuberculosis and 1 lung cancer. Xiao Qing Long Tang was used as the basic formula and the ingredients and doses should be modified according to symptoms and signs. Results: 120 cases of acute bronchitis were cured after being treated with 4 doses; for 128 cases of chronic bronchitis and acute attack of chronic bronchitis, symptoms disappeared after being treated with 6 doses; cases of emphysema and pleurisy were improved after 6 doses; cases of pulmonary tuberculosis and lung cancer were ineffective.
Xiao Qing Long Tang was used as a basic formula to treat 100 cases of infantile pertusis. Age of the patients varied from 1.5 ~7 years, course of disease 10~60 days. For long-term cough with deficiency, add lan hua gen and ye mian hua gen. Results: 84 cases were cured after 3 days, 16 were cured after 6 days.
Xiao Qing Long Tang was used to treat 53 cases of allergic rhinitis, courses of disease ranged from 2 weeks to 12 years. Results: 26 cases were cured, 24 markedly improved, 3 ineffective., the total effective rate was 94.3%.
50 cases of allergic rhinitis was treated with Xiao Qing Long Tang. With bacterial infection, antibiotic could be added according to the state of illness, 15 days as a course of treatment. Results: 25 cases were markedly effective, 18 effective, 7 ineffective, the total effective rate was 86%. 32 of the cases were treated for one course, other 18 cases for 2 courses.
8 cases of infection of urinary system that were confirmed by examinations were treated with Xiao Qing Long Tang combining dang shen and huang qi. For according to the differentiation of TCM, the cases could be classified into stranguria induced by overstrain, while being accompanied with syndromes of long-term qi deficiency, external contracted Wind-Cold, so they could be treated according to the treating principle of Fluid-retention syndrome. Results: all cases were cured after being treated with 3~12 doses, averagely 8 doses.
