ZHI MU, TIAN HUA FEN & SHA SHEN

Zhi Mu Bai He Tang was used to treat 6 cases of depression. Methods: 250ml, tid. Results: six patients were cured after being treated with 54 doses totally, 9 doses averagely, no recurrence was observed in the six months’ follow-up survey.

Zhi Mu Kun Cao Tang was used to treat prostatic hyperplasia. Methods: zhi mu, huang bo, niu xi, 20g each; dan shen 30~50g; da huang 10~15g; yi mu cao 50g were decocted with water. 80 cases were treated, the total effective rate was 86.3%.

Yu Ye Tang was used to treat diuresis stage of epidemic hemorrhagic fever. Prescription: tian hua fen 30g; sheng shan yao, huang qi 20g each; zhi mu, ge gen, wu wei zi 15g; sheng di, mai dong 10g each. 1 dose every day. Take 100ml decoction in two times after being decocted with water. 30 cases were observed, 28 were cured, 2 effecitve.

Tong Jin San was used to treat 96 cases of habitual constipation. Methods: tian hua fen, dang gui, xuan shen, 15g each; lai fu zi 30g were made into powder, 6g, tid, being taken orally, 10 days as a course of treatment. Results: 86 were cured, 7 effective, 3 ineffective.

61 cases with non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus were treated with the following prescription: tian hua fen 20g, li zhi he 15g, shi hu 10g, yu zhu 10g, shan yao 10g, bai shao 10g, bian dou 10g, lian zi rou 10g, fo shou 10g, mei gui hua 10g, dai dai hua 10g. This prescription could be modified according to TCM differentiation, 1 dose every day. Results: 12 cases were controlled temporarily, 6 markedly effective, 33 effective, 10 ineffective.

Ru Yi Jin Hua San, in which tian hua fen is the principle drug, shows therapeutic effects on various skin and external diseases. According to the researches on this formula’s pharmacological effects, clinical dosage form and clinical application, Ru Yi Jin Huang San takes on anti-infectious, antibacterial effects. Its clinical dosage forms include powder, aqueous extract, decoction, etc.. Prescription: tian hua fen 50g; jiang huang, huang bo, bai zhi, da huang, 25g each; hou po, cang zhu, chen pi, gan cao, nan xing, 10g each. This formula is for external use with appropriate dosage, it was also used to treat internal hemorrhoid with blood in stool, phlebitis and acute abdominal diseases, etc..

24 infantile patients with persistent pneumonia were treated by decoction of 15g sha shen and 15g shan yao. The courses of the cases ranged from 1~3 months. Results: 12 cases’ main symptoms and signs disappeared and no recurrence were observed, 9 cases’ symptoms and signs disappeared, 3 were ineffective.

sha shen, mai dong, gan cao, jie geng, jin yin hua, lian qiao, 100g each and pang da hai 50g were made into honeyed pill. 12 cases of esophagitis were treated with this pill, methods: 1~2 pills, three times to five times every day, being taken through perlingual administration between meals or when stomach is empty. Results: 8 cases were cured, 6 improved, 1 ineffective. 6 cases were taken a follow-up survey from 1~6 years, no recurrence was observed.

Sha Shen Mai Dong Tang (sha shen, mai dong, yu zhu, tian hua fen, bian dou, 6~9g each; dong sang ye 6g; gan cao 3~6g; da qing ye, ren zhong bai 9~12g) was used to treat 34 cases of infantile aphtha. Methods: the drugs were decocted with water, 1 dose every day. Results: all cases were cured after 2~5 doses. The ulcer healed up after 3 doses averagely.

Basic formula: sha shen, shi gao, 15g each; xing ren, mi zhi pi pa ye, 10g each; e jiao, mai dong, hei zhi ma, dong sang ye, mu hu die 12g each. The formula could be modified according to different symptoms and signs. 85 cases of hoarseness of voice were treated with this formula, except 1 ineffective cases, all were cured.
