Sheng Di

sweet, bitter, cold clears Heat and cools the Blood, nourishes Blood and yin, clears Heart Fire
Shi Gao acrid, sweet, very cold clears Heat and Fire from the Lungs and Stomach


Indications
*  Excess Heat patterns, febrile disease, Stomach-Heat (acid reflux, indigestion, extreme hunger).
*  High fever, thirst, severe headache, retching.
*  Irritability, mania, delirious speech, blurred vision.
*  In some cases: rashes, haematomas, nose bleeding, cramps in the limbs.
*  Toothache, bleeding gums, mouth sores.
*  Encephalitis B, epidemic cerebrospinal meningitis, sapraemia, stomatitis, glossitis.
Dosage
The typical proportion when added to a constitutional formula is 6:1 formula to addition (15 grams in 75- 90) grams of formula). If a stronger effect is desired more can be added. When used alone the dose is three grams twice daily.
Combinations
*  With Huang Lian Jie Du Tang for Heat in both qi and Blood caused by febrile disease.
*  With Zeng Ye Tang for toothache, mouth sores or severe sore throat with Heat signs.

Combined action
Clears systemic heat, anti-inflammatory and antifebrile.
