Shi Gao

acrid, sweet, very cold clears Heat, purges Fire, clears and discharges the Lung and
the Stomach, promotes healing up and tissue regeneration
Zhi Mu bitter, sweet, cold clears Heat, purges Fire, clears and discharges the Lung
and Stomach, removes hectic fever due to yin deficiency

 

Indications
*  High fever, vexation, thirst, profuse sweating.
*  Diabetes with the manifestations of dry mouth and thirst.

Combined action
Clears Heat in the Lung and the Stomach, nourishes yin.

Combinations
*  For fever, add Shan Zhi Zi/Mu Dan Pi.
*  For high fever, Huang Lian Jie Du Tang can be added.
*  For thirst and dry mouth, add Zeng Ye Tang.
Dosage
The typical proportion when added to a constitutional formula is 6:1 formula to addition (15 grams in 75- 90 grams of formula). If a stronger effect is desired more can be added. When used alone the dose is three grams twice daily.
