Sha Ren

acrid, warm transforms Damp, moves qi, 
warms the Centre, stops diarrhoea, calms foetus

Shu Di

sweet, slightly warm nourishes Blood, supplements Essence,  tonifies the Liver and the Kidney


Major therapeutic action
Nourishes Blood, harmonises the Stomach.

Dosage
The typical proportion when added to a constitutional formula is 6:1 formula to addition (15 grams in 75- 90 grams of formula). If a stronger effect is desired more can be added. When used alone the dose is three grams twice daily.

Indications
*  Blood deficiency.
*  Kidney deficiency.

Cautions and contraindications
Caution in patients with weak Spleen and Stomach, stuffy chest due to Damp obstruction, poor appetite and loose stools while prescribing Shu Di.
None noted.

Combinations
*  For Blood deficiency, add Chuan Xiong/Dang Gui.
*  With Spleen qi deficiency, combine with Si Jun Zi Tang.
