Major therapeutic action
Benefit, nourish and brighten the eyes, cools the body especially with irritability and possibly headaches.

Dosage
The typical proportion when added to a constitutional formula is 6:1 formula to addition (15 grams in 75- 90 grams of formula). If a stronger effect is desired more can be added. When used alone the dose is three grams twice daily.

Indications
*  Eye disorders of all types. Includes both visual weakness and red sore eyes.
*  Patterns of dryness with a feeling of heat rising causing headaches, tinnitus, and visual impairment.

Combinations

*  With Liu Wei Di Huang Wan for patterns with insomnia, malar flush, occipital or vertical headaches, irritability, dry eye and throat, low back pain, tinnitus, night sweats, a feeling of heat in the palms and soles, dry stools, red and cracked tongue with no coat, and a weak pulse (Qi Ju Di Huang Wan).
*  With Xiao Yao San for eye disorders with irritability and depression and clinical or subclinical anaemia with symptoms of a pale face and lips, tiredness.
