Tian Nan Xing

bitter, acrid, warm dries Dampness, transforms Phlegm,
expels Wind-Phlegm, relieves spasm, alleviates pain

Xuan Fu Hua

bitter, acrid, warm directs qi downwards, stops slightly salty vomiting,  transforms Phlegm, suppresses cough


Major therapeutic action
Clears Phlegm.

Dosage
The typical proportion when added to a constitutional formula is 6:1 formula to addition (15 grams in 75- 90) grams of formula). If a stronger effect is desired more can be added. When used alone the dose is three grams twice daily.

Indications
*  For cough or asthma with profuse Phlegm.
*  Profuse Phlegm, shortness of breath, fullness in the chest.
*  Vomiting, nausea.
*  Bronchitis, bronchial asthma, pulmonary emphysema.

Combinations
*  With Chen Pi/Ban Xia for fullness in the chest, cough and profuse Phlegm. 
*  With Xiao Qing Long Tang for Wind-cold attack with severe fluid congestion.
*  With Huo Xiang Zheng Qi San for nausea and vomiting from acute bacterial, viral attack.
