Typhae latifolia & trogopterus xanthipes

Pu Huang	sweet, neutral	stops bleeding with astringent property, removes Blood stasis, alleviates pain
Wu Ling Zhi	sweet, warm	activates Blood, alleviates pain, transforms Blood stasis, stops bleeding

Major therapeutic action
Activates Blood, removes Blood stasis, alleviates pain.

Dosage
The typical proportion when added to a constitutional formula is 6:1 formula to addition (15 grams in 75- 90 grams of formula). If a stronger effect is desired more can be added. When used alone the dose is three grams twice daily.

Indications
* Irregular menstruation, severe abdominal pain, failure to discharge lochia after parturition and other gynaecopathy due to Blood stasis.
* Cardiac pain due to Blood stasis.

Cautions and contraindications
None noted.
Raw Pu Huang can contract the uterus, it is contraindicated in pregnant women.

Combinations
* With qi stagnation, add Jin Ling Zi San.
* For cardiac pain, combine with Xue Fu Zhu Yu Tang.
