Ingredients
Perilla frutescens (Zi Su Ye, perilla leaf)
Schizonepeta tenuifolia (Jing Jie, Schizonepeta leaf)
Cinnamomum cassia (Gui Zhi, cinnamon twigs)
Zingiber officinalis (Gan Jiang, dried ginger)
Asarum seiboldii (Xi Xin, asarum)
Pinellia ternata (Ban Xia, pinellia)


Biomedical action
Anti-asthmatic and anti-allergic, stops cough, improves plasma cortisol and ACTH
Indications
• External contraction of Wind and Cold, internal lingering of Phlegm and Damp.
•  With the appropriate key symptoms, this formula can be used to treat biomedical conditions such a chronic bronchitis, influenza, emphysema, bronchial asthma, and acute attacks of chronic bronchitis, asthmatic
bronchitis.

Key symptoms for use
• fever and chills, chills predominant
• cough, wheezing and breathlessness
• stifling sensation in the chest
• copious white stringy sputum
• generalised heaviness and body aches
• moist tongue coat

Combinations
• With generalised body aches and heaviness and copious clear sputum add Cang Zhu/Hou Po.
• With copious Phlegm add Chen Pi/Ban Xia.
Dosage
The typical dose is three grams twice daily, before meals. In severe cases or the early stages of treatment (the first two weeks), a 50-100% increase in dose may be used, and then reduced as the treatment takes effect.

Cautions and contraindications
