Bu Gu Zhi

acrid, bitter, warm warms Spleen and Kidney yang,

Yi Zhi Ren

acrid, warm warms Spleen and Kidney yang,
alleviates diarrhoea and excessive urination


Major therapeutic action
Warms and strengthens the Kidneys’ function of transforming and processing fluids.


Dosage
The typical proportion when added to a constitutional formula is 6:1 formula to addition (15 grams in 75- 90 grams of formula). If a stronger effect is desired more can be added. When used alone the dose is three grams twice daily.

Indications
Frequent: urination, nocturia, enuresis and urinary incontinence from weakness.
Digestive: disturbances, particularly chronic diarrhoea, loss of appetite, indigestion and abdominal pain
with feelings of cold.

Cautions and contraindications
None noted.
Contraindicated in dryness patterns with feelings of heat especially in the afternoon or in the palms or soles.

Combinations
With Liu Wei Di Huang Wan and Gan Jiang & Rou Gui for polyuria, nocturia or enuresis with a general feeling of weakness and lethargy.
With Si Jun Zi Tang and Gan Jiang & Rou Gui for digestive problems with a feeling of cold such as chronic diarrhoea or cockcrow diarrhoea.
