Zingiber officinalis (Gan Jiang, dried ginger)
Glycyrrhiza uralensis (zhi Gan Cao, liquorice)

Poria cocos (Fu Ling, hoelen)
Atractylodes macrocephala (Bai Zhu, atractylodes)
Pinellia ternata (Ban Xia, pinellia)
Panax ginseng (Ren Shen, ginseng)
Magnolia officinalis (Hou Po, magnolia bark)
Citrus aurantium (Zhi Shi, aurantium)
Coptis chinensis (Huang Lian, coptis)

Major therapeutic action
Relieves stuffiness, strengthens the Spleen and harmonises the Stomach.

Digestive.

Indications
o  Spleen deficiency and qi stagnation, coagulation of Cold and Heat.
o  With the appropriate key symptoms, this formula can be used to treat biomedical conditions such as chronic gastritis, chronic bronchitis, gastrointestinal neurosis, etc.

Key symptoms for use
o  local distension and fullness in the upper epigastrum
o  lack of thirst or appetite
o  fatigue and weakness
o  local distension in the chest and abdomen
o  wan complexion
o  poor digestion
o  irregular bowel movements (sometimes loose, sometimes hard)
o  wiry pulse at the right, middle position

Combinations
o  With severe distension, add Qing Pi/Xiang Fu.
Dosage
The typical dose is three grams twice daily, before meals. In severe cases or the early stages of treatment (the first two weeks), a 50-100% increase in dose may be used, then reduced as the treatment takes effect.
