Commentary
Another formula called Dao Tan Tang (Phlegm guiding decoction) consists of Pinellia ternata (Ban Xia, pinellia), bile-processed Rhizoma Arisaematis (Dan Nan Xing), Citrus aurantium (Zhi Shi, aurantium), Poria cocos (Fu Ling, hoelen), Citrus reticulata (Ju Hong, citrus peel) Glycyrrhiza uralensis (Gan Cao, liquorice) Zingiber officinalis (Sheng Jiang, ginger). It can dry the Dampness, remove the Phlegm, move qi and relieve depression. In the clinic, this formula is indicated in the treatment of vertigo due to Phlegm, or Phlegm-Fluid, with stuffy chest, asthma, cough, headache and vomiting.
Dosage
The typical dose is three grams twice daily, before meals. In severe cases or the early stages of treatment (the first two weeks), a 50-100% increase in dose may be used, then reduced as the treatment takes effect.
